④  When are orifice flanges not the right choice for my project?

For low pressure normal temperature onshore conventional systems without harsh conditions or precise flow measurement, orifice flanges are not cost effective. Their integrated orifice plate structure, precision measuring design and marine anti-corrosion features are unnecessary for simple, non-corrosive, low pressure onshore pipelines that don’t require precise flow detection. They are unsuitable for general onshore environments, light load non-cyclic scenarios, and only fit harsh offshore marine petrochemical conditions. Choose more cost effective alternatives: standard measuring flanges or ordinary onshore measuring connecting flanges.


⑤  What are the steps to install orifice flanges?

To install orifice flanges, first clean flange surfaces, pipeline interfaces and installation areas of oil, rust, welding slag, impurities and seawater residues with dedicated on site tools, verifying no impurities affect sealing and measurement reliability. Then perform professional surface pretreatment to enhance flatness and roughness especially for complex flanges, narrow shipboard and offshore confined areas to ensure tight fit, leak-proof sealing and accurate flow measurement. Adjust pretreatment parameters based on marine conditions, pressure and base materials to avoid poor sealing or inaccurate measurement. Install marine grade gaskets per specifications, align flanges and bolt holes, then fasten bolts evenly to prevent uneven stress or gasket damage. Verify alignment, bolt torque, gasket fit and flatness as needed, and conduct pressure or leak tests on critical marine connections to confirm full assembly, tight sealing and no medium leakage affecting measurement accuracy.
